General Digital Lock Questions

How long has AN Digital Lock been in business, and why does that matter?

AN Digital Lock has specialised in digital door locks since 2013.

A digital lock is a security and trust purchase, not an impulse buy. Years of experience matter because every home has different door types, gate designs, installation conditions, and security needs.

With years in the trade, our team has handled a wide range of door types, installation challenges, and product generations. This allows us to recommend a suitable digital lock for your specific situation and provide reliable after-sales support long after installation.

Why should I install a digital lock?

A digital lock allows you to unlock your door using methods such as fingerprint, PIN code, RFID card, mobile app, facial recognition, or a mechanical override key, depending on the model. It is convenient for daily use because you no longer need to carry physical keys everywhere.

We still recommend keeping your mechanical override key at an accessible backup location, such as your office, car, or a trusted family member’s home, in case of emergency.

Which digital lock is suitable for my door or gate?

The most suitable digital lock depends on your door type, gate type, door to gate clearance, door thickness, and whether your door is fire-rated. Before purchasing, take clear photos of your current door, gate, lockset, handle area, and the measurement of the gap between your door and gate.

You may send the photos to our consultants via WhatsApp or visit our showroom for advice. Different lock models are designed for different door and gate conditions, so checking compatibility before installation is important.

Can I install a digital lock on my existing door?

In most cases, yes — there is usually no need to replace the whole door. Digital locks work well on solid timber, engineered wood (the typical HDB main door), metal, and composite doors. What matters is the door's material, its thickness (most locks suit doors roughly 35mm to 60mm thick), and the existing lock cutout. The last thing to take note of will be the clearance between the door and the gate, which is often neglected. Though it may seem like your door and gate have sufficient space between them, do not forget to include the measurement of the existing gate handle (if any), so that once the lock is installed, the door and gate do not hit against one another. The correct model depends on your existing door type, lockset, door thickness, door to gate clearance, and whether your main door is fire-rated.

Our experienced installers assess your door first and confirm the fit before any work begins, so there are no surprises.

Can I install a digital lock on a metal gate?

Yes, a digital gate lock can be installed on many metal gates, provided there is enough space and the gate structure is suitable. Some gates may require additional adjustment or a customised metal plate depending on alignment and clearance.

Where can I try the digital locks before buying?

You may visit our AN Digital Lock experience centres to try selected digital locks, gate locks, doors, and digital safes before purchasing.

Why are some digital locks cheaper elsewhere?

Some cheaper digital locks may be parallel imports or overseas models that are not officially distributed for the Singapore market. These products may not come with local warranty support, proper after-sales service, compatible parts, or certification for local requirements.

For peace of mind, we recommend choosing authorised local sets with proper installation, warranty coverage, and after-sales support.

Delivery & Installation

Are delivery and installation included?

Most digital lock purchases from AN Digital Lock include standard delivery and installation unless otherwise stated on the product page, quotation, or promotion terms.

Additional charges may apply for special requests, site restrictions, customised work, door or gate rectification, or non-standard installation conditions.

How long does digital lock installation take?

Installation usually takes around 1 to 4 hours, depending on the product type, door or gate condition, and whether additional fitting or adjustment is required.

When can I schedule my installation?

Installation is generally available from Monday to Saturday, excluding Sundays and public holidays. After your purchase, our team will contact you to arrange the installation schedule.

For condominiums and apartments, management rules may restrict drilling hours. Many buildings do not allow drilling after 5pm on weekdays, after 12pm on Saturdays, or on Sundays and public holidays. Please check with your building management before confirming your installation slot.

Can I reschedule or cancel my installation?

Please inform us at least 3 days before your scheduled installation date if you need to reschedule or cancel. Late changes may be subject to a rescheduling or cancellation fee.

What should I prepare before installation?

Please ensure that someone is present at the installation location, the door or gate area is clear, and any management approval for drilling work has been obtained.

Battery & Maintenance

What batteries should I use for my digital lock?

Most digital locks use AA alkaline batteries. We recommend using good-quality alkaline batteries such as Panasonic Evolta or Duracell. Do not use rechargeable batteries, carbon-zinc batteries, or mix old and new batteries.

How long do digital lock batteries last?

Battery life depends on usage frequency, lock model, and battery quality. As a general maintenance habit, we recommend replacing the batteries every 6 months to reduce the risk of leakage and avoid being locked out due to low battery. Digital locks that use rechargeable lithium-ion batteries should be recharged when the lock prompts a low-battery warning. A full charge usually takes around 5 hours, and each charge typically lasts about 2 to 4 months, depending on usage.

How do I prolong the lifespan of my digital lock?

  • Use only good-quality alkaline batteries.
  • Do not use rechargeable batteries.
  • Do not mix old and new batteries.
  • Replace batteries every 6 months.
  • Avoid slamming the door or gate.
  • Install or maintain your door closer if needed.
  • Keep the mechanical key in a safe backup location.

Should I use rechargeable batteries?

No, we do not recommend rechargeable batteries for digital locks. Rechargeable batteries may have different voltage behaviour and can cause unstable performance in some lock models.

Warranty & After-Sales Support

Do I need to register warranty?

Some brands require online warranty registration, while others may have different warranty processes. Our staff will advise you if registration is required for your selected model.

How long is the warranty for each digital lock brand?

Warranty duration varies depending on the digital lock brand. Below is a general warranty guide for selected brands sold by AN Digital Lock:

  • Zigbang Digital Locks: 1st year full warranty covering parts and labour, followed by 2nd year parts warranty.
  • Igloohome Digital Locks: 1st year full warranty covering parts and labour, followed by 2nd and 3rd year parts warranty.
  • Kaadas Digital Locks: 2 years full warranty.
  • Hafele Digital Locks: 2 years full warranty, additional year if you register warranty on HafeleCare.
  • Solity Digital Locks: 2 years full warranty, followed by 1 year parts warranty.
  • Philips Digital Locks: 3 years full warranty.

Full warranty generally refers to warranty coverage for both parts and labour, subject to the brand’s official warranty terms and conditions.

What can void my digital lock warranty?

Warranty may be affected by misuse, water damage, battery leakage, unauthorised dismantling, improper installation by third parties, forced entry damage, door alignment issues, or using unsuitable batteries.

Does warranty cover door or gate alignment issues?

Digital lock installation mainly covers drilling, fitting, and setting up the lock. Door or gate alignment problems are usually considered separate from the digital lock itself.

Emergency & Troubleshooting

What should I do if I am locked outside?

First, check whether the lock still has power. Depending on the model, you may be able to jump-start the lock using a 9V battery or a power bank. You may also use the mechanical override key if your lock model includes one.

If you are unable to unlock the door, contact our team or locksmith (91264066) for assistance. Locksmith service may be chargeable, and engaging an unauthorised locksmith may affect warranty coverage.

What should I do if I am locked inside?

Check for signs of battery leakage or low battery. If safe to do so, replace the batteries and try unlocking again from the inside. If the lock remains unresponsive, contact our support team immediately.

What happens if my digital lock battery is flat?

Most digital locks provide low-battery alerts before the batteries are fully drained. If the lock runs out of battery, many models can be jump-started from the outside using a 9V battery or power bank, depending on the model. You should also keep your mechanical override key accessible for backup.

My gate lock remote control is not working. What should I do?

The most common cause is low remote-control battery. Try replacing the remote-control battery first. If the issue continues, remove and reinsert the gate lock batteries and remote-control battery, then test again.

If the remote still does not work, contact our hotline or your salesperson for further assistance.

Fire-Rated Digital Lock Questions

Can I install a digital lock on a fire-rated door?

Yes, but if the lock is installed on a fire-rated door, the digital lockset should be suitable and certified for fire-rated door use. Fire-rated doors and their hardware are certified to meet fire safety requirements, and using uncertified hardware may affect the door’s fire safety performance.

Can I replace a fire-rated door with a non-fire-rated door?

No. A fire-rated door should not be replaced with a non-fire-rated door. If replacement is needed, it should be replaced with a suitable fire-rated door of the required rating.

What is a Certificate of Conformity, or CoC?

A Certificate of Conformity, commonly called CoC, is a document used to show that a product has met the required certification or testing standards. For fire-rated door applications, you should check that the selected lock and installation are suitable for the specific door requirement.

Why does a fire-rated digital lock need a mechanical failsafe?

A mechanical failsafe helps ensure that the lock can still be opened from inside the home during an emergency, even if there is no electrical power.
