The guidelines include:
- The width of the gate, number of panels and its swing distance has to be the same as the original gate provided by HDB, so it does not obstruct escape routes.
- Units must allow at least a clearance of 1m from the gate to the corridor parapet wall when it is open.
- Units by the staircase must not block the staircase when it is opened at all angles.
- Corner units should not have gates that hit the neighbouring flat’s window
As for people living in condominiums, you will have to seek approval from the management for approval of the design and colour before you install the metal gate, to ensure that you adhere to the facade of the condominium. Failure to do so can result in a fine or removal of the metal gate.
